Years ago I lived in a house on a hill in Ixtapa, Mexico. The jungle was my back yard and I could see water off in the distance. That jungle was beautiful, mysterious, and dark at night…so dark the only thing I could see was moonlight reflected on the surfaces of leaves. It smelled damp and earthy with a hint of salt from the sea breezes rising up off the Pacific Ocean at night. It was sublime. This painting is inspired by those moments in the dark contemplating life in the presence of awesome nature. When it was quiet and the kids were asleep. My moments of peace. Time to think. It has mixes of deep tones of brown, green, blue, and black in the majority with shapes and woodgrain coming through in shades of salmon, rust, creme, and sea-foam green. It is protected with an archival-quality matte varnish to keep light and dust damage to a. minimum as it ages.
