“I am interested in connecting more deeply with the world by expressing how I feel visually about nature, human and other. Throughout life, I've felt a deep cellular connection to the natural world  and this has always been a driving factor for me.

In fact, I can say it is transformative for how my life is lived, relationships experienced, and the convergence of visual images in my mind. That cellular connection is now expressed through the act of making as a visual dialogue with the universe.

I do this while keeping in mind the impact my practice has on the environment and the ways I can continue to move forward with a process enriching to all, and respectful of the connection. My art practice is explored and grounded in principles of curiosity, connectedness, and balance.

Cat Huss (b. 1970) is an American contemporary abstract painter and mixed media artist. Cat's quest for self-discovery and connection with the world around her is what fuels her creativity. She seeks to connect with others by expressing her impressions of the world in layers of rich color and simple, almost minimal form…. giving a sense of the layered life filled with wonder, mystery, curiosity, and a quest for truth in self and others.

Her work process relies on two steps: meditation with full recognition of visual, intellectual, and emotional sensitivities before starting, then letting go within the process to allow for exploration, playfulness, and the natural flow of work to dictate what comes next and when it is finished.

Cat is an independent artist. Her work has been featured in galleries, virtual exhibitions, and curated independent fairs throughout the United States. One of her works was featured on the cover of Elle Decor UK in the Fall of 2023 and In June 2021 she was a featured artist in Coastal Bend Magazine Artist issue. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Advertising/Public Relations and a Masters Degree in Communication. Her work is currently held in public and private collections in the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia.

“Informed by her deep communion with nature,

Cat creates meditative compositions that echo her introspective odyssey, with each artwork offering a glimpse into her inner terrain. Her work often starts with multiple layers of poured paint, resulting in a blend of colors, densities, and vibrancy. As the painting evolves, Huss continues to refine it, adding rough geometric shapes to bring order to the composition. Working primarily with acrylic paint, she incorporates elements such as graphite, paper, and soft pastels to enhance her vision. Describing her approach as "meticulously playful," Huss draws inspiration from a diverse range of sources, maintaining an extensive library of visual ideas.”
